Record group 70-66 consist of two sets of records of the Michigan Department of Conservation, Fish Division. The first set of records consists of selected correspondence relating to Division activities in the counties (1927-64). Includes memoranda; orders; lists; policy statements; petitions; opinions on legal problems; clippings, notices of adoption of resolution affecting name change of State Committee on Geographic Names; and reports. These relate to use of the water for fishing; developments affecting navigation and fish culture; water levels; legal problems; location and names of lakes; regulations on taking fish; and Division activities to propagate, plant and protect fish. The second set of records are selected records relating to continuing programs and problems (1951-64). Includes correspondence; reports and memoranda relating to agriculture conservation program; Cedar Creek; Commission orders and legislation; M.J. DeBoer, supervisor of field management; directives of Division; fish mortality; Great Lakes licenses; hazzard plan; lake inventory; lake trout; muskellunge experiment; report of predators; survey of Rifle River system in Arenac and Ogemaw counties; survey of Pine River system in Manistee, Wexford, Lake and Osceola counties; and opinions from courts and Dept. of Attorney General.

The 1925 Clark-McNary Act expanded the provisions of 1911 Federal legislation creating the National Forest System (Weeks Law). It made it easier for the United States Department of Agriculture to buy land from those sellers whose property was located within the National Forest System.
